The Self in Human–AI/Robot Integration: Agency and Self-Attribution

As technology advances rapidly, computers are becoming deeply involved in our bodies and behavior. When humans integrate with computers and acquire abilities beyond their own or different bodies, to what extent are we still ourselves? Through Superception, a research framework for extending and transforming human perception and cognition with computers, we investigate how the self may be formed in human–computer integration. This talk introduces a series of projects on the self in such integration and discusses the questions they raise about extended agency shared by humans and computers, including AI and robots, the attribution of identity, and responsibility.
