Cybernetic avatar (CA) technologies enable people to realize their abilities and share the diverse skills and experiences of others. By acquiring a new body through a cybernetic avatar, anyone could act freely beyond the constraints of their physical body. We need to discuss what such a society should be like and the challenges of implementation from legal, ethical, and social perspectives while the technology is still being developed.

The fifth meeting discusses human actions through multiple CA bodies and legal responsibility for any resulting harm. Shunichi Kasahara of Sony CSL, a participant in the Moonshot project on cybernetic avatar technologies and social infrastructure for embodied co-creation, will introduce technologies that enable one person to operate multiple bodies. This will be followed by a presentation on legal causation by Project Assistant Professor 山本展彰 of Osaka University’s Research Center on Ethical, Legal and Social Issues.

The meeting also aims to build connections, so it will conclude with a discussion involving all participants. We welcome anyone interested in CA technologies and society.
