Paper published in npj Acoustics

Our paper “The impact of visual-auditory interactions on well-being: colour and soundscapes in urban spaces” by Izumi Fukunaga, Shunichi Kasahara, Nicholas Luscombe, Santa Naruse, and Paul Bavister has been published in npj Acoustics (open access).

The study reports results from the immersive installation Oto・Iro in a pedestrian tunnel in Okinawa, which combined natural sounds recorded around Okinawa and synthetic sounds with coloured lighting. Participants reported their emotional responses on a tablet; the natural sounds, in relation to the colours, significantly affected their emotional well-being. The results have implications for designing sound in urban spaces.
